Sheikh Sharubutu praises Bawumia for completing Answarudeen Islamic School project
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his role in completing the Answarudeen Islamic School at New Fadama in Accra.
The school, which Sheikh Sharubutu established almost four decades ago, had fallen into disrepair before it was taken up for reconstruction under the Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF) during Dr Bawumia’s tenure as Vice President. Although significant progress was made, parts of the project remained incomplete when the administration changed, leaving the works stalled.
To ensure the facility’s completion, Dr Bawumia personally provided GH¢160,000 to the Office of the National Chief Imam for equipment and fittings. This intervention enabled the school to be finalised for use.
During a courtesy call on the Chief Imam, Sheikh Sharubutu commended the gesture, describing it as a noble act that would benefit generations of young learners. “This is a remarkable deed, particularly because it benefits these children. I am very grateful to you for all that you have done and the support you continue to offer,” he stated. He also offered prayers for Dr Bawumia, asking Allah to bless him abundantly.
Dr Bawumia was accompanied by former Finance Minister Dr Amin Adam, former Deputy Transport Minister Hassan Tampuli, and Lawyer Seidu Nasigri, who once chaired the board of the ZoDF and now serves as Legal Advisor to the Office of the Chief Imam.
Mr Nasigri revealed that Dr Bawumia had also directed that once the contractor is reimbursed by the ZoDF, the funds should be refunded to the Chief Imam’s office.
At Sheikh Sharubutu’s request, the former Vice President toured the facility, visiting classrooms where pupils recited Surah al-Fatiha as a prayer for him.
