Accra Academy launches 95th anniversary

Accra Academy has launched its 95th anniversary with a call to reinforce its identity and to support its infrastructural development.

The Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, made the call at the launch, saying that alumni and stakeholders had to actively commit to investing in the school's future and legacy.

She was speaking as the Guest of Honour at the event.

The launch, which was held last Friday, brought together old students, members of the parent-teacher association (PTA), staff, students, and development partners to reflect on the school's rich history and chart a path towards its centenary celebrations in 2031.

It also had some distinguished guests in attendance, such as a former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, who chaired the event.

The event had the theme: “A Legacy of Pride, Purpose & Achievements”, and served as a platform to reinforce the school's heritage while investing in its facilities and programmes to enhance teaching and learning for future generations.

The programme was used to unveil the official 95th anniversary logo and outlined a calendar of activities that will run throughout the year as part of the anniversary celebrations.

It also featured a fundraising appeal to improve infrastructure and support the school's development agenda, and the induction of final-year students into the Alumni group.

The anniversary programme will continue with the registration and renewal of National Identification Authority (NIA) cards for members of the school community, followed by a Career Guidance and Counselling programme and the celebration of Founders' Day in July.

The school will also organise a float and homecoming event in August to reunite alumni and celebrate the institution's enduring legacy.

There will also be a grand durbar in September, followed by an awards night and a thanksgiving service in November.

Legacy, reform

Ms Addo said that Accra Academy had played a significant role in shaping generations of difference makers in the country.

She linked the founding principles of the school to ongoing national education reforms aimed at reinforcing similar principles of access and equity.

She called for collective commitment to preserve the school’s heritage and to secure its future.

For his part, the Headmaster of Accra Academy SHS, Eric Ebo Sey, said the relationship between the school and its alumni had remained a key pillar of its development.

He commended the old boys’ association for its continued support in mentorship, infrastructure and scholarships.

Mr Sey further urged current students to draw inspiration from the institution’s legacy and to uphold its traditions.
