Adwinsa Publications donates GH¢45,000 worth of books to Ghana Library Authority
Adwinsa Publications has donated supplementary readers valued at GH¢45,000 to the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) as part of activities to mark International Day of Education.
The donation, comprising 35 titles authored by indigenous Ghanaian writers, is aimed at promoting reading among children and enhancing access to locally relevant stories.
The books will be distributed to libraries nationwide to support literacy development.
Reading culture
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Evelyn Amponsah, Managing Director of Adwinsa Publications, highlighted the importance of inculcating a reading culture among children.
She encouraged parents to make library visits a regular habit for their children’s development, stressing the role of books in education.
“Books are essential to children’s education, but the high cost, driven by expensive imported printing materials, limits accessibility,” she noted.
She further appealed to the government to reduce taxes on printing materials and adequately resource the GLA to ensure books remained affordable and libraries well-equipped.
Gratitude
The Head of Acquisition and Distribution at the GLA, James K. Naabah, expressed gratitude for the timely support.
“Adwinsa has been a longtime partner, and we appreciate their contribution to helping us fulfil our mandate,” he said.
Mr Naabah gave an assurance that the books would be distributed to the 137 libraries across the country and urged Ghanaians not to overlook libraries in favour of the Internet, emphasising the enduring relevance of books in education.
He commended Adwinsa Publications for their consistent commitment to literacy and education, stating that the donation reinforces their dedication to fostering a love for reading among Ghanaian children.
