Embrace critical thinking - Prof. Ofosu-Anim urges fresh students
The Vice-Chancellor of the Presbyterian University, Ghana (PUG), Professor John Ofosu-Anim, has encouraged students to embrace critical thinking and develop solutions that positively impact society.
He emphasised that the world was evolving rapidly and, therefore, achieving success required a strong foundation of knowledge, ethics and adaptability.
Prof. Ofosu-Anim made the remarks during the matriculation ceremonies for the 2024/25 academic year held on various campuses of the university, including Okwahu, Akuapem, Kumasi, and Asante Akyem.
The ceremonies culminated on March 26 with the Faculty of Medical Sciences and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
A total of 1,830 new students were admitted across all campuses, with 599 in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and 296 in the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Striving for excellence
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to strive for excellence, stating, “You have chosen a profession where your actions can directly affect the well-being and lives of individuals.”
He added that “the healthcare profession is built on a foundation of compassion, empathy, and dedication to healing. Always remember the profound impact you can have on the lives of patients and their families.”
Adapting to change
Prof. Ofosu-Anim also mentioned how the changing landscape of health care was influenced by societal shifts and technological advancements.
He reiterated that the student's chosen profession required actions that positively affected an individual’s well-being and emphasised the significance of their future roles in health care.
