Labone old students donate to students affected by fire outbreak
The Labone Old Students Association (LOSA) has donated items valued at GH¢37,000 to support students affected by the recent fire outbreak at Labone Senior High School.
The donation, which took place last Monday, included educational supplies such as 400 exercise books, 40 Casio calculators, 40 Nataraj maths sets, 300 pens, 20 pencils and 100 long rulers.
Additionally, essential clothing items, including panties, brassieres, underskirts, bathroom slippers, and fabric materials comprising 10 bundles each of blue and green checks, three bundles each of white and blue-black Dacron, and 100 yards of bedsheet materials, were provided.
The gesture by LOSA follows a devastating fire on March 16 that ravaged three girls’ dormitories at Labone Senior High School, leaving one destroyed and two others partially damaged.
Donation
Addressing the students during the presentation, LOSA President, Listowel Mensah Agbeli, emphasised the association’s commitment to restoring normalcy for the affected students.
“We have assessed the items you lost and have endeavoured to replace them promptly. We recognise the urgency of these needs, which is why we mobilised resources swiftly to provide them.
More support is on the way, and we aim to ensure that each student’s loss is fully addressed,” he stated.
Mr Agbeli also acknowledged the efforts of various stakeholders who had shown interest in assisting the school during the challenging period.
He advised the students to maintain good behaviour to prevent any further unfortunate incidents.
Appreciation
The Headmistress of Labone SHS, Rejoice Akua Acorlor, expressed profound gratitude to LOSA for their unwavering support.
She acknowledged the association’s consistent presence and contributions since the incident, including the provision of polytanks, mono desks, projectors and projector screens.
“We are grateful for this donation, and we know this is not the end of it. More are yet to come. We are so grateful,” she said.
Mrs Acorlor encouraged the students to emulate the old students by studying hard and giving back to the school in the future.
“They are trying to provide for us, so please learn from this and study hard, make sure you make it so you can come back in years to give back to our school,” she said.
