Laweh Open University College ready to share technology

The management of the Laweh Open University College says it is willing and ready to provide technological infrastructure support to tertiary institutions in the country to facilitate the provision of quality online and distance education to students through virtual platforms.

The initiative has become necessary in response to the directive by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to the Ministry of Education and tertiary education institutions to roll out distance learning programmes during the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Online lectures

A statement signed and issued by the President of the university, Professor Goski Alabi, explained that the decision of her institution to support tertiary institutions in the country to deliver lectures via online was because: “We have the experience and we are doing it locally.”

She said in order to avoid truncation in the academic calendar, we are prepared and committed to supporting institutions customised technology to immediately continue their academic activities through virtual means without interruption to the academic calendar.”

Technology transfer

Prof. Alabi explained that the Laweh Open University College, the first accredited private Open University in the country, had the requisite technological infrastructure to provide quality online and distance tertiary education through virtual platforms.

“The philosophy of the university is to provide an opportunity for education without barriers that shall produce middle to strategic level leaders to be responsible for their learning and personal transformation through our educational offerings,” she further explained.

Founded on the principles of useful and applied learning, Prof. Alabi said the university was a world-class higher education provider, adding that “we believe, together, we can move Ghana tertiary education beyond CONVID-19,” she added.
