Okyenhene to honour 10 best BECE candidates in his model schools

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, has pledged to offer scholarships to 10 out of the 79 best candidates in 10 of his model schools writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

That, he stated, would financially assist the best candidate in each of the 10 model schools to pursue senior high school (SHS) education.

The schools are the Amoatia Ofori Panin Model Junior High Schools (JHSs) at Kyebi, Osino, Kwabeng, Apedwa, Asuom, Takyiman, Achiase, Dwenase, Kraboa-Coaltar and Wenchi.

The Okyenhene made the pledge when the BECE candidates in the model schools, together with their teachers, called on him at his palace, Ofori Panin Fie, at Kyebi.

Blessings & encouragement

The visit by the candidates was to seek his blessings and words of encouragement to enable them to prepare well for good grades at the BECE.

The Okyenhene said the scholarship package would support all 10 pupils who come out with flying colours to pursue their secondary education without any problem, in line with his vision to improve education in his traditional area.

Good grades

"I strongly believe that doing this will not only motivate the final year pupils to make good grades but will also open opportunities for them to excel in life as they climb the academic ladder.

"As long as I continue to remain the Okyenhene, I will continue to support not only the 10 top pupils, who will perform creditably, but also other brilliant and needy pupils in my traditional area," the Okyenhene stated.

He urged them to work hard so that they could overcome all obstacles in their way to eventually be persons of substance in the future.

Academic excellence

That, he indicated, would transform the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area into a centre of academic excellence.

The Okyenhene urged the teachers and headteachers to properly guide the pupils towards the examination, since that would make them proud as well as their parents and guardians.

The Okyenhene also supported the BECE candidates with mathematical sets, as well as a cash prize of GH¢100 for each candidate, to give them extra motivation to pass the examination with ease.

Challenges

The headteacher of the Osino Model School, Melody Davis, expressed gratitude to the Okyenhene and highlighted some challenges facing some of the model schools.

She mentioned some of the challenges, including the lack of school bungalows for teachers, the lack of school buses, no electricity in some of the model schools and encroachment of school lands by community members and illegal miners.

The Headteacher of the Kyebi Model School, Beatrice Arthur Amoah, who was highly elated about the donation of a new bus by the Okyenhene for her school, said that it would motivate the candidates to perform well in the BECE.
