Haruna Iddrisu will transform Ghana's education sector – General Matheen

Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy General Secretary aspirant, Jinsar Abdul-Mathleen, widely known as General Matheen, has expressed confidence in the newly appointed Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, to spearhead a comprehensive transformation of Ghana’s education sector.

In a social media post, General Matheen lauded the competence and experience of Haruna Iddrisu, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Tamale South. He believes that the minister possesses the requisite expertise to introduce significant reforms within the sector.

“Honorable Haruna Iddrisu’s appointment particularly excited me because he is the perfect fit for the education sector. People thought he would go to a different ministry, but the president knows why he put one of his best people there,” he stated.

General Matheen lamented the "decline of basic education under the previous Akufo-Addo administration" and called on Haruna Iddrisu to prioritize efforts to revive it. He expressed optimism that, under the new minister’s leadership, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, including the widespread issue of schools operating under trees, would be effectively addressed.

“Our basic school system is literally dead, and that is where you need people like Haruna Iddrisu to correct the wrongs,” he noted.

Assessing President John Dramani Mahama’s recent appointments, General Matheen commended the president for selecting individuals with proven expertise to manage key sectors of the economy. He expressed confidence that these appointments would help fulfill the administration’s policy commitments.

“So far, I’m really impressed with the appointments made by President Mahama, and I’m confident that they will deliver. The president has appointed the best people to lead the various sectors, and I trust them to carry out his reset agenda,” he remarked.

General Matheen also highlighted the youthful composition of the appointees, describing it as a strategic move to secure the future of the NDC and the country.

He urged the young appointees to seize the opportunity and make a strong case for the inclusion of more young Ghanaians in leadership roles.
