
Kinbu Senior High Technical School launches 25th anniversary
Kinbu Senior High Technical School in Accra has officially launched its upcoming Silver Jubilee celebrations and Speech and Prize-giving Day scheduled for November 18, 2017.
The celebration is on the theme; “Celebrating the achievement of resourcing the nation for development”.
At the launch which took place on the premises of the Ghana Institution of Engineers at Roman Ridge, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Augustina Adjoa Owusu, said the school would be celebrating 25 years of secondary education and 143 years of its existence.
The Kinbu Senior High Technical School was established in 1874 during the reign of colonial Governor Rowe.
It was originally called Government Boys’ School and was popularly known as Rowe Road School.
It later became well known as the Kinbu Middle Boys’ School and finally, the Kinbu Senior High Technical School.
The Chairman of the Board of Governors of the school, Mr Emmanuel Dogbotse, said some distinguished former students of the school included the current President of the country, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the first Speaker of Parliament in the First Republic, Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist; a former Minister of Education during the era of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), Mr Harry Sawyer; Speaker of Parliament in the Second Republic, Justice Nii Amaah Ollenu, and the convener of citizens’ riot in 1948 in the lead up to independence, Nii Kwabena Bonney, as well as Mr Emmanuel Joseph Cobblah, the First Administrator of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, in 1923.
The Chairman of the Old Boys Association of the school, Ing. Joseph Oddei, urged all old students of the school to come together and develop the school to enable it to take its rightful place in society.
“A cursory glance of personalities who have made significant contributions to the development of the country would reveal a sizeable number of people who attended Kinbu school,” he said.
The current generation of old students of the school could be found in diverse occupations and positions, including politics, the creative arts and hospitality industries, advertising, marketing and aviation.
The first Headmaster of Kinbu Senior High Technical School, Mr Johnson Omudie, chaired the ceremony which was attended by old students, former headmistresses and headmasters of the school, heads of senior high schools in Accra, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school, regional and metro directors of education and sister institutions.
