He lauded the introduction of information and communications technology (ICT) in schools as an examinable subject, especially in basic schools, considering the opportunities created by the study of ICT.

Mr Ngala made the call at a sod-cutting ceremony to begin the construction of a modern school strucrture at the St Peter’s Lutheran School at Madina in Accra to replace the old school buildings, which were put up in 1997.

He commended the school for partnering the government over the years to provide quality basic education to its students, and described the construction of the facility as a laudable idea, assuring the school of the Ghana Education Service’s (GES’s) support for the project.

“This modern project is highly a laudable idea and the GES will support the St Peter’s Lutheran School to achieve it. Churches are investing tremendously in the spiritual and moral upbringing of students, making them truly understand individuals, and we applaud the church for that,” he said.

Vision

The Chairman of the National Education Board, Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana, Dr D. Hodasi, stated that; “Our vision is to offer quality basic education such that children who pass through the school will develop their God-given potential and be equipped for service to God and mankind.”

He said the new facility would have upgraded classrooms equipped with modern trending tools to enhance teaching and learning. It would also have an office complex, an e-library, a computer lab, a science lab and a canteen.

“This would ensure that pupils receive the best of quality education in the most serene environment to enable them to build their confidence and realise their fullest potential, guided by sound principles,” he noted.

Purpose

The Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana, Rt Rev. Dr Paul Kofi Fynn, said in addition to feeding the people with the word of God, their will was also to give them good education so that they would grow to become good citizens of this country.

He said it took them  more than 20 years to mobilise the necessary resources for the commencement of the project, pointing out that the facility would serve many purposes aside from providing access to education from the creche to the junior high school (JHS) level.
