Staff of Judicial Training Institute undergoes trauma-informed care training
The Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has asked management and staff of the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) to ensure that every training module and intervention equipped judges and staff of the institute with practical tools that would improve justice delivery in the country.
The Chief Justice made the call in a speech delivered on his behalf by a Supreme Court Judge, Justice Henry Anthony Kwofie at a three-day seminar on trauma-informed care organised for the staff of the JTI at Koforidua in the Eastern Region on Wednesday (December 24, 2025).
The seminar, organised by the International Justice Mission (IJM) was to equip the directors and staff of the JTI in the training of judges and magistrates.
Participants were taken through topics such as the foundation of a trauma-informed approach, mental health awareness, understanding vicarious trauma, and managing vicarious trauma, among others.
The Chief Justice said the judiciary today operated in an environment that is rapidly evolving, shaped by technological shifts, increasing public expectations with expanding access to justice demands.
That, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie stated, demanded professionalism, integrity and efficiency.
He indicated that for the staff of the JTI to remain effective, it could not simply rely on past successes but must constantly examine the systems, re-evaluate strategies, and refine the approach to training and capacity building.
The Country Director of the International Justice Mission (IJM), Anita Budu said as the JTI discharged its mandate to design and deliver programmes that respond to the professional development needs of the judiciary, it was equally important that judicial staff would be adequately equipped to carry out their responsibilities with competence, confidence and care.
That, she explained, was because every interaction within the justice system, whether judicial administrative or procedural, contribute to how justice is experienced and understood by the public.
