Registration ongoing for WASSCE resit examination

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that registration for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates (WASSCE PC1) is ongoing and will close on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

The examination, which offers students an accelerated opportunity to improve their grades, is set to take place from January 24 to February 15, 2025.

Faster path to academic success

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on December 31, 2024, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, explained that the initiative, dubbed WASSCE PC1, is designed to assist candidates who wish to resit one or two papers without waiting an entire year.

“Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” he stated.

The exams will primarily be conducted in regional capitals due to the relatively low number of candidates for the first series.

Support for candidates

To help candidates prepare, WAEC has committed to releasing chief examiners’ reports ahead of the exams. These reports will offer detailed feedback on common mistakes and tips for better performance.

“We’ve advertised this programme widely through banners, our website, and our results checker platform to ensure that both students and parents are aware,” Mr Kapi added.

Who is eligible?

Students whose results have been cancelled due to malpractice are eligible to register, provided they have not been banned from taking the examination. This initiative also aims to assist candidates in quickly improving their grades to meet admission requirements for the next academic cycle.

How to register

Prospective candidates are urged to visit the WAEC website for detailed registration instructions. Registration is to be done online or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés.

WAEC is optimistic about the impact of this programme. “This initiative will allow candidates to improve their grades and qualify for the next cycle of admissions, avoiding a year-long delay in their academic progress,” Mr Kapi noted.

Students and parents are encouraged to take advantage of this expedited opportunity to enhance their academic outcomes. The clock is ticking, and registration closes on January 8, 2025.
