School furniture handed over to Nkwanta North Education directorate

About 1000 pieces of school furniture have been handed over to the Nkwanta North District Education Directorate to be distributed to some selected basic schools in the district.

Handing them over, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North, Dordoe Kudjoe Isaiah said the intervention was aimed at helping to address a deficit in school infrastructure in the area, where inadequate classrooms and a shortage of desks have compelled many pupils to sit on the floor or share limited furniture during lessons.

He said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen education delivery and reduce disparities in access to quality education.

He said the government was committed to ensuring equitable access to education by providing a conducive and dignified learning environment for all schoolchildren.

The furniture is made up of 130 hexagonal tables, 385 dual desks, over 445 mono desks, and 32 sets of tables and chairs for teachers.

Mr. Isaiah explained that the distribution was one of several measures being implemented to tackle persistent challenges confronting basic education in parts of the Oti Region, where infrastructure gaps continue to affect academic work.

He noted that the shortage of furniture had contributed to overcrowded classrooms, reduced teaching efficiency, and poor concentration among pupils, with some schools recording low attendance due to the uncomfortable learning environment.

He appealed to heads of schools, teachers, and pupils in beneficiary institutions to take proper care of the furniture to ensure its durability.

The District Director of Education, Mr. Bansah Dickson, commended the Assembly for the intervention, describing it as a timely boost to education delivery in the district.

He said the furniture would ease pressure on existing resources, improve classroom comfort, and enhance learning outcomes for pupils.
