See the members of the newly sworn-in NaSIA and NaCCA Boards
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrissu, officially swore in the Governing Boards of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) at the Ministry’s offices in Accra on Thursday, July 3.
After administering the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy, the Minister urged the board members to work towards improving the quality of education in the country, with particular emphasis on enhancing access, inclusiveness, and relevance.
"On behalf of Excellency John Jamani Mahama and my own behalf, our doors at the Ministry remain very open. We want to work with you and we want to join you to work to improve the quality of education in Ghana, its access, its inclusiveness and its relevance," he said.
Discipline
Mr Iddrssu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, emphasized the importance of school inspections, particularly due to recent troubling incidents where students have reportedly accessed weapons in schools.

He described this as a failure of school management, inspection systems and possibly parenting, though also partly due to deviant student behavior.
"Your key functions, as I understand, include school inspection, land census monitoring and evaluation and school ownership transitions. I am particular about the school inspections because there's been some worrying developments in the country where repeatedly we are told that a student can have access to a work weapon or even a gun whilst on campus," he said.
Standard-based curriculum
The minister emphasized the importance of a standard-based curriculum for basic schools, highlighting an upcoming review of the kindergarten and primary curriculum.

He stressed that foundational learning should go beyond literacy and numeracy to include national values, culture, life skills and the social and emotional well-being of learners.
He added that fostering integrity and love for country from an early age is essential to building responsible citizens.
Strengthening STEM, TVET
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of strengthening science, technology, mathematics, engineering (STEM), and TVET—including Green TVET — with a focus on skills development.
He announced plans to introduce artificial intelligence and coding into the pre-tertiary curriculum, starting from early primary school and mentioned the upcoming launch of the Beyond Academic Skills program, aimed at instilling patriotism and responsibility in young learners.
Appreciation
The Chairmen of the two institutions, Dr Maabobor Kor Jacob Aaworb-Nang and Prof. Vincent Assanful, expressed their appreciation to President Mahama and the Minister of Education for the opportunity to serve the nation.

They pledged their commitment to collaborate with all stakeholders to promote and ensure quality education across the country.
