Sam Geroge promises DSTV price cut after meeting with MultiChoice executives on Friday
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has assured Ghanaians that DSTV subscription prices will be reduced following a crucial meeting scheduled for Friday, July 4, 2025.
He disclosed that he had already held preliminary talks with the leadership of MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DSTV and GOtv, to address growing public concerns about subscription affordability, value for money, and fairness in service delivery.
Mr George made the assurance during a ministerial briefing on Thursday, July 3, to update the public on key developments in the digital and communication sector during the second quarter of the year.
The promise of a price reduction comes amid increasing public outcry over DSTV’s subscription charges, which many say are becoming unaffordable in the current economic climate.
He said Friday’s meeting would involve both the Ghanaian team and the top management of MultiChoice from South Africa, who arrived in the country on Thursday evening.
“I invited the senior leadership of MultiChoice Ghana to a full-out dialogue on subscription pricing in Ghana. The meeting addressed public concerns about affordability, value for money, and fairness in service delivery,” he stated.
“I made it clear the Ministry’s expectation that pricing structures must be responsive to Ghana’s economic context. I have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Friday — even though it’s a public holiday — with the Ghana team and their South African counterparts. They arrived tonight to agree on a way forward on the issues raised,” Mr George added, assuring the public of a favourable outcome.
“I make you one promise, I won't leave tomorrow's meeting without securing a drop in the price of DSTV. That is a solemn promise I make to you,” he said.
He further indicated that the outcomes of the meeting would be communicated to the public in due course.
