University of Ghana suspends social gatherings amid COVID-19 resurgence
The University of Ghana has announced the immediate suspension of all social gatherings on campus following a recent resurgence in COVID-19 cases.
The directive was issued on Wednesday, June 25 and signed by Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, as part of precautionary efforts to protect the health of the university community.
“Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases on the University of Ghana campus, it has become necessary to suspend all social gatherings with immediate effect,” the notice stated.
The suspension applies to all student groups, including the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Student Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), and all departmental and school associations. Planned week celebrations and related activities have also been put on hold until further notice.
The university urged all student leaders and stakeholders to comply fully with the directive, stressing that the measure is intended to prioritise public health and safety.
The memo was also copied to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), Director of Public Affairs, Director of Safety and Security Services, hall authorities, heads of departments, senior tutors, hostel managers, and patrons of student groups.
The announcement signals a renewed phase of caution as the university responds to the re-emergence of COVID-19 on its campus.
