They are Michael McCarthy and Richmond Kwadwo Sarpong, driver’s mate; Bright Akaminku and  Abubakar Sadik, traders and Abass Baba, auto mechanic.

The others are Ibrahim Alhassan, auto mechanic; Abugri Osuman, unemployed; Joe Ofori, trader; and Yunus Abdul Hamid Mubarak, fashion designer and Ahmed Aminu, driver’s mate.

Their pleas were not taken by the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri. The case was adjourned to February 16, 2015.

Presenting the facts to the court, the Prosecutor, Inspector Martin Acheampong, said for some time now, the accused persons had been attacking people at Madina, Adenta and its environs and robbing them of their valuables.

He said the complainant in the case is Ebenezer Kofi Odei Bediako, a trader and a resident of Atraco, East Legon in Accra.

Insp. Acheampong  said  on January 5, 2015, at about 2:00a.m, Bediako and his family were asleep in their house when eight of the suspects broke into their room, attacked them at gun point, subjected them to severe beatings and robbed them of three mobile phones, jewellery and a sum of GH¢27,000.

Insp. Acheampong  said the police managed to track Mubarak, who was using one of the stolen mobile phones, and arrested him.

When questioned, Mubarak mentioned Aminu as the person who sold the phone to him at GH¢570.00.

Insp. Acheampong said, when Aminu was also arrested, he mentioned McCarthy and Sarpong as those  who  sold the phone and a tablet to him at GH¢700.

Based on this, McCarthy and Sarpong were traced to their hideout and  arrested.

Upon interrogation, McCarthy confessed to the robbery and mentioned Sarpong, Akaminku, Abubakar, Baba, Alhassan, Osuman and Ofori as his accomplices.

In a  search conducted on them, 17 live cartridges were found with Sarpong and  a face mask was also found with Ofori.

A pump action gun was retrieved from Osuman while one of the stolen mobile phones was also found with Baba.

Alhassan, on his part, said he received GH¢400.00 as his share of the booty from McCarthy but did not take part in the robbery.

While investigation was ongoing on January 20, 2015, an identification parade was conducted, during which Alhassan was identified by one of the victims.
