2012 CIMG Marketing Woman launches project for women
The 2012 Charted Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Marketing Woman of the year, Ms Esther Cobbah, has launched a project to mentor girls and young women to develop their potential and skills to achieve their goals in life.
The project, which is to commence next month, is targeted at first and third-year female students in senior high schools to provide a foundation for the beneficiaries to enter and progress to the tertiary level, and also to benefit young women in petty trading and those in corporate organisations.
The training include mentorship, leadership skills, exploring linkages between educational path and professional aspirations and nurturing for self-development, career guidance and counselling.
Twenty-four winners of the CIMG marketing women awards will also participate in the programme to mentor the beneficiaries.
Media launch
Speaking at the media launch of the project dubbed, “Believe It, Achieve It” in Accra on Tuesday, Ms Cobbah, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Stratcomm Communications, said the project was expected to build the confidence and self-esteem of beneficiaries and provide them with the opportunity to interact with role models to enable them to develop and pursue their career.
According to her, the project would inspire and offer young women a form of leadership training that would enable them to achieve their goals.
“The range of experience and talent reflected in the network of marketing women of the year is what we seek to inculcate into this project,” she said.
The CEO urged young women to make life choices including decisions on education to meet personal and professional goals.
“Sowing the seed of future success at an early stage helps to attain what we aspire for. We face choices of remaining steadfast in pursuing lifelong goals or crumbling in the face of the least adversity,” she added.
Laudable Initiative
The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Ms Sherry Ayittey, said the commitment of the marketing women to provide mentoring and training for young women was laudable.
She said such initiative would encourage girls to attend school and help them to succeed in life.
She said apart from the training and skills the young women would obtain, there was the need for young women to be provided with some guidance to overcome emotional barriers.
The Managing Director of Unilever Ghana, Ms Maidie Arkutu, also lauded the initiative and said, “Working hard is just the foundation, as females, we need the interactions from mentors to get the guidance that will encourage us to succeed”.
