Known as the Women (W) Banking initiative, the service is targeted at young professional women, women in business including market women and those in the family setting.

The W Banking initiative also comes with a maternal health support scheme aimed at assisting women customers of the bank with concessionary loans to support them in paying for their medical bills for their antenatal needs, as well as fertility and weight control treatments, hysterectomy and myomectomy (surgeries that remove the uterus and fibroids respectively).

The scheme also provides women who are non-customers of the bank, access to the product through an online community or E-Banking service on www.thewcommunity.com.

It is also a scheme which will empower women to be able to save enough and help their spouses at home.

Explaining how customers could access the service, the head of Women Banking Unit at Access Bank, Mrs Josephine Eva Arthur, said customers could pick up application forms at any branch of the bank nationwide.

She stated that those in the professional women category would be open to a wide range of opportunities including mentor-mentee programmes, career development workshops and seminars, as well as reduced discounts on shopping and travelling.

Young professionals

“Young professionals will have access to selected panel of professional business advisors including lawyers, accountants, tax experts, auditors and consultants tailored to meet their needs,” she said.

Mrs Arthur added that the service had come in handy to support men as well, noting that they had not been relegated in the scheme since whatever the woman would be able to access would go a long way to assist the man.

The Head of Corporate Communication and Branding Management at Access Bank, Mrs Matilda Asante Asiedu, said the service had come to stay and would go a long way to help women in their daily activities.

She emphasised the need for the full participation of market women in the newly introduced service, and added that they could not be overlooked due to the role they played in the financial sector.
