Woman injured in accident on Nima-Newtown intersection

An accident along the Nima-Newtown gutter intersection in Accra Friday left two people injured. 

The accident occurred when KIA Urvan with registration number GR47-51-14, which was reportedly being driven by a driver's mate, hit glass stalls in front of the main shop and slipped into bigger gutter which connects to the Odorna river.

An eye witness, who identified herself as Ayisha Na-aata, said while sitting in front of her shop around 3pm, she saw the vehicle coming at high speed, prompting her to flee to safety.

Na-aata said she saw the vehicle skid of the road, hit the front view of the next shop and accelerate straight into the gutter.

Another eyewitness by name of Baba Ami said he heard a shout of his sister calling out the name of the owner of the next shop and before he could go outside and see what is happening, he heard a loud bang and felt the whole house shake. He said later, he saw a victim lying helplessly on the ground with blood all over her body.

He said he immediately stopped a taxi and had the victim sent to the hospital. He later called the police who arrested the driver and his mate.

Baba Ami said he later learnt that the driver was teaching the mate how to drive and had just given the wheel to his mate when the accident occurred.

Asked whether the driver and his mate suffered any Injuries, he saw some blood on the mate's clothes but did not know if he was hurt. 

The accident victim is currently at the 37 military Hospital, while the driver and his mate are currently in police custody.
