Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, have been drawn alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq in Group D of the 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup.
The tournament will take place in San Juan de los Lagos in Mexico, from November 13 to 22, 2026, bringing together 24 national teams in the contest for the world title.
The grouping sets up an African encounter between Ghana and Angola, while Colombia and Iraq complete a group spanning three continents.
Angola’s pedigree underlines the scale of the task. They won the World Cup in Mexico in 2018 and reached the final again in 2022, finishing runners-up to Türkiye.
Ghana arrive with a strong continental record of their own. The Black Challenge retained the African Amputee Football Cup of Nations title in May 2024 after defeating Morocco 2–1 in Cairo, securing their place at the 2026 World Cup.
That achievement followed their success at the inaugural African Para Games in Accra in September 2023, where another 2–1 victory over Morocco delivered the amputee football title on home soil.
Those results give Ghana a foundation for confidence, although the World Cup presents a different test. Advancing against international opposition will require the Black Challenge to combine their attacking quality with discipline, consistency and careful preparation.
The reported draw provides a clearer focus for that preparation: studying opponents, developing match fitness and ensuring that medical, equipment and travel arrangements support the players’ performance.
For Ghanaian supporters, Mexico offers the prospect of seeing a team with a proven record of continental success compete for further honours on the global stage. It also presents an opportunity to build wider recognition and sustained support for amputee football across the country.
