Ghana Police Service, through a sustained intelligence led operation, has arrested two key suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Cheikh Toure, a Senegalese goalkeeper, in Kumasi in October 2025.
On October 16, 2025, some persons who claimed to be brothers of the deceased goalkeeper sent him to the Manhyia Hospital in Kumasi with several abdominal injuries, alleging that the victim had been involved in an accident.
The victim, Cheikh Toure was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspects then deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo, Kumasi, and absconded.
The suspects, Salifu Walid, a 32-year-old Nigerien national, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, a 24 year old Burkinabe national, were arrested on September 20, 2026 at their hideout at Banpanase near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
A police statement said preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects are members of a four member group suspected to have masterminded the kidnapping and murder of Cheikh Toure.
The group posed as football scout agents and used online networks to lure unsuspecting victims into Ghana.
During interrogation, the two suspects according to the police statement admitted their involvement in the crime and provided information on their respective roles in luring the deceased into Ghana as part of an alleged scheme to defraud him.
The police said efforts have been intensified to arrest suspects Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry, who are currently on the run and are believed to have played a central role in the group's activities.
The two suspects are currently in Police custody and will be processed for court
