The Black Star Experience has launched its maiden Black Star Comedy Experience (BSCE), dubbed ‘You’re Ghana Laugh’, with comedy talents from Ghana, Nigeria and the United Kingdom billed to entertain audiences on January 2, 2027.
The comedy show was officially launched yesterday, Thursday, September 24, at the Black Star Experience Forecourt at Jubilee House in Accra, as part of activities marking Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
The launch brought together comedians, creatives, media practitioners, and other players in the entertainment industry, including Black Star Experience Head Coordinator Rex Omar; comedians Hogan, BriKojo Anim, and Lekzy DeComic; and the show’s host, Foster Romanus.
Rex Omar, also known as Rex Owusu Marfo, is the Head Coordinator of the Black Star Experience, the initiative under which the comedy experience is being introduced.
The January 2 show will feature Ghanaian comedians OB Amponsah and Lekzy DeComic, Nigeria’s Parrot Mouth and Klint Da Drunk, as well as UK-based comedians Eddie Kadi, Slim and Kojo Anim.
Kojo Anim, a British-Ghanaian comedian and former Britain’s Got Talent contestant, will represent the Ghanaian diaspora alongside UK-based comedians Eddie Kadi and Slim.
The inclusion of the international acts is expected to provide an opportunity for Ghanaian comedians to interact with comedians from outside the country while exposing them to different styles and audiences.
According to the organisers, the show will go beyond traditional stand-up comedy by incorporating improvisation and musical comedy to give audiences a broader live entertainment experience.
The programme has also been divided into three segments: The Rising Stars, The Feature Acts and The Host.
The Rising Stars segment will feature two promising local comedians, while The Feature Acts will comprise seven established comedians with different comedic styles.
The Host segment will be handled by Foster Romanus, who will keep audiences entertained between performances.
Speaking at the launch, comedian Hogan said the participation of international comedians would provide Ghanaian comedians with an opportunity to connect with talents from the diaspora.
He said the presence of UK comedians would also expose local comedians to new audiences and allow them to demonstrate the growth of Ghana’s comedy scene.
“This gives the local comedians the opportunity to get exposure from the diaspora comedians who fly into Ghana every December,” he said.
He added that the experience would create an opportunity for local comedians to entertain international visitors while showing how far their craft had come.
Another comedian at the launch said the initiative would provide local comedians with access to proper stages, audiences and industry connections, which he described as important for the development of the comedy industry.
The organisers said the experience was also designed to bridge the gap between Ghanaian and international comedy by creating opportunities for local comedians to reach audiences outside the country.
They said while online comedy content continued to thrive, live comedy remained important because it created direct human connection and social interaction between performers and audiences.
The organisers described ‘You’re Ghana Laugh’ as more than a stand-up show, saying it would celebrate wit, storytelling and cultural commentary while spotlighting both established and emerging talents.
The launch attracted a number of personalities from the comedy and creative industry, including Lekzy DeComic, Hogan, BriKojo Anim and Foster Romanus, who were present to support the initiative and its focus on developing Ghana’s comedy space.
The event is expected to become part of the wider effort to create international opportunities for Ghanaian comedians, with plans to take the comedy experience beyond Ghana in subsequent editions.
