The Greater Accra Regional Fire Command, in collaboration with Ghana Water Limited, has inspected fire hydrants within the Ministries enclave as part of efforts to strengthen firefighting preparedness.
The exercise identified about 30 fire hydrants, but only five were fully functional with high water pressure, while two recorded low pressure. The remaining 23 hydrants were non-functional.
The team also discovered that the Controller and Accountant General's Department had no fire hydrant on its premises.
Regional Fire Officer ACFO II Rashid Nisawu advised CAGD management to work with the Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Water Limited to facilitate the installation of a hydrant.
The inspection covered several government institutions, including SIGA, SSNIT, the Ministries of Transport, Roads and Highways, Energy and Finance, GRA, GHS, NLA, the Court Complex, and Accra Sports Stadium.
The exercise forms part of a proactive initiative to identify, repair, and restore non-functional hydrants ahead of the fire season, ultimately improving emergency response and protecting lives and property.
