The Airport City charter of the Rotary Club was formed on October 9, 2014. It has 35 members, made up of professionals who have resolved to support humanitarian work.

Rotary projects

In an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra, the President of the Accra- Airport City charter, Mr Philip De Souza, said the club had outlined numerous projects for this year targeted at improving the living conditions of the less-privileged in society.

He said it was the responsibility of all clubs in the Rotary International fraternity to embark on a major project each year. He said the Accra-Airport club, which was new, would focus on delivering water and sanitation projects.

He said the Mpoasei and Gbegbeise primary schools in Accra had been earmarked to be provided with water and sanitation facilities.

“The schools need clean drinking water and hand washing basins so they can engage in good hygiene practices,” he said.

Additionally, Mr De Souza added, the club would embark on a healthcare sensitisation programme for residents in the two communities.

Profession with integrity

Mr Maurice Edorh, a district governor of Rotary International, commended the Accra-Airport charter for its contribution to the rotary community.

“It is a great honour for me to share in this auspicious day when your club is being chartered as the 35th Rotary Club in Ghana,” he said.

While urging the new chartered club to go about its activities with integrity and also inspire other clubs within the fraternity to strive harder, Mr Edorh also advised the members to make the provision of humanitarian projects for needy communities a priority.

“I believe that you will leverage your energies to solve some challenges facing some of the communities”, he added.
