She said the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills by women would enable them to play pivotal roles in families and the development of the country.

She said the formal sector employed only a small number of the active labour force, stressing that women should take advantage of the numerous opportunities in the informal sector to acquire employable skills instead of chasing non-existent jobs in the formal sector.

Mrs Opoku, who is also the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, was speaking at the graduation of five members of the National Association of Beauticians and Hairdressers (NABH) at Gomoa Ekwamkrom. She presented each of the graduands with a standing drier to enable them to start their businesses.

She said it was important for women to acquire skills in order to own businesses to improve their standard of living, adding that by so doing they would be in a position to support their husbands in taking care of the family.

She said no man would marry an idle woman, hence the need for women to make conscious efforts to engage in profitable businesses so that they could contribute to the maintenance of the home and be accorded the respect they deserved in the society.

The minister urged the graduands to put the items presented to them to good use so that they also could positively impact the lives of others they would train.

She advised parents to provide their children with their needs and encourage their daughters who wanted to acquire entrepreneurial skills to do so.

The Central Regional NABH President, Miss Josephine Bennin, lauded the MP for the provision of the standing driers to the graduands, and advised them to put the items to good by using them to improve their livelihood.

She also urged them to adopt good customer relations in order for their businesses to stand the test of time.
