AESL Board asked to reduce cost of projects
The board of directors of the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL) has been tasked to ensure that the cost of public projects is reduced.

The reduction is expected to facilitate the generation of funds for the execution of other public development projects.
According to the Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda, the cost of public projects was very high as compared to the private sector.
He, therefore, called on the board to develop a regional based indicative project cost document to serve as a guide for the costing of public projects.
Inauguration and membership
Inaugurating the board at a brief ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, Alhaji Dauda described the situation as worrying and that required the urgent attention of all stakeholders, particularly the board.
The seven–member board, chaired by Mr J.H. Owusu Acheampong, comprises Mr Mujeeb Rahman, Mr Osman Thompson, Mr Paul Boafo, Ms Cecilia Nana Kesse and Nana Kojo Torku.
According to the minister, the members were chosen based on their expertise in the sector and were expected to provide strategic direction and support the AESL to achieve its targets.
Market competition
Alhaji Dauda said the AESL played a significant role in national development, particularly in the area of infrastructural development, through the provision of services such as architectural designs, quantity surveying, water resources management and the supervision of public projects.

He charged the board to be innovative to ensure that the company survived in the market because there was a lot of competition from the private sector because of their involvement in the provision of consultancy services for government projects.
“It is my expectation that considering the capabilities and resources of the AESL, you as board of directors will initiate programmes aimed at exploring opportunities in the West African sub–region and further to improve the fortunes of the organisation,” he added.
Alhaji Dauda advised the board of directors to collaborate with the management of AESL in the delivery of its mandate.
Mr Acheampong thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence bestowed in them and expressed the hope that with support from all stakeholders, the board of directors would be able to make the AESL better.
