The fund, dubbed “Agona Nsaba Educational Fund’’, has the objective to provide sound foundation for students, particularly those in the final year of junior high school (JHS) from both public and private basic schools to help address the poor performance of students in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).

It would cater for extra tuition for the students after normal school hours where some teachers would be recruited to teach the students and prepare them adequately for the BECE.

Chairman of committee

The Chairman of the education committee, Mr Justice Arhinful Yankson, said that the fund was instituted by the chiefs and elders of the town to help raise the academic performance of the students at the basic school level.

According to him, the committee, which was set up a few years ago, had the mandate to ensure that BECE candidates performed well to be able to continue to the senior high and tertiary levels of education.

He said the committee had ensured discipline in schools, as well as collaborated with head teachers towards improving the standard of education in the area.

He made a passionate appeal to people of the town, home and abroad to make financial contributions to sustain the fund.

Director of Education

A representative of the Agona East District Director of Education, Very Reverend Eyiah Quansah, urged parents to be actively involved in the education of their children, which would enable them to aspire to greater heights.

He stated that education played a critical role in the development of societies and therefore urged the students to study hard to justify the numerous investments being made by the government in the education sector.

He further appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children to augment the efforts of government in the provision of quality education to the citizenry.

He advised the students to take their studies seriously so that the objective for which the fund was set up could be achieved.

The Gyaasehene of Agona Nsaba, Nana Odiakopa Arkoh II, who chaired the function, urged students to study hard.
