Ahafo: Police arrest 3 over alleged robbery plot, retrieve AK-47, pistols, drone
Three suspects are to be arraigned before court after the Ahafo Regional Police Taskforce intercepted them on an unregistered motorbike at night and uncovered weapons linked to a planned robbery. A fourth suspect is on the run.
The Ahafo Regional Police Command disclosed this in a press briefing issued on Wednesday, February 24, 2026, at its headquarters in Goaso.
The interception took place on February 22, 2026, at about 11:30 pm, when taskforce patrol teams on duty along the Ayomsu-Goaso Road were conducting stop-and-search operations.
The officers spotted two suspects, Johnson Mawutor, 26, and Kelvin Ofori, 22, riding an unregistered motorbike towards Ayomso near Goaso.
On seeing the police from a distance, the suspects switched off the motorbike’s headlights and made a U-turn in an attempt to escape. The officers pursued and arrested them.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of an AK-47 assault rifle, with serial number 68098152, loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition. The weapon was concealed in a bag they were carrying.
Police later led the two suspects to their residences at Abro Danho, a suburb of Goaso. A further search of Mawutor’s room uncovered additional weapons and items.
These included a Beretta Bruni pistol, a NM157-1941 pistol, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition. Officers also retrieved four Motorola handsets, a Contiso F35 drone, a machete, and a bayonet knife.
Preliminary investigations point to an organised supply chain. According to the police briefing, on the same day at about 3:00 pm, Mawutor asked his cousin, Mawuli Dogba, 20, to accompany a friend identified as Mohammed-Adinan Ussif to Techiman in the Bono East Region to collect a parcel.
At Techiman, Ussif reportedly entered a house, picked up a parcel in a wine-coloured polyester bag, and placed Dogba on a Toyota Voxy minibus back to Goaso with the parcel.
On his return, Mawutor and Ofori met Dogba and took the parcel. Later that night, at about 11:30 pm, the three were intercepted on the Ayomsu-Goaso Road with the bag containing the rifle and ammunition while heading towards Ayomso.
Police say efforts are underway to arrest Ussif and any other persons connected to the case. Mawutor, Dogba and Ofori are expected to be put before court and remanded to assist with investigations. All retrieved items remain in police custody.
The Ahafo Regional Police Command urged the public to volunteer information to support police work in their communities.
