Amanokromhene unveils youth agenda at Odwira Saturday
The Akuapem Gyasehene and Chief of Amanokrom in the Eastern Region, Nana Osim Kwatia II, is to unveil a youth development agenda at the Gyaseman durbar scheduled for Saturday, October 7, 2017.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of his ascendancy to the Amanokrom stool and as Gyasehene, he has decided to use the durbar to make a clarion call on Akuapem Gyaseman to embrace the theme for the durbar: “Youth, the Key to Gyaseman’s Future.”
In a goodwill message ahead of the durbar, he declared that the youth were the key to attaining the lofty goals of Gyaseman and, therefore, needed to be nurtured, empowered and motivated to play key roles to achieve those objectives.
He further spoke about the intentions of the traditional authority to foster a culture of dialogue with the youth to harness their potential and engender their talents to develop their skills for the development of the community.
“For all those development plans and initiatives, unity and peace among our people will be essential conditions towards their achievement,” he said.
Restoration of discipline
Nana Kwatia called for the proverbial qualities of discipline, which Akuapems were noted for but had eluded them in recent times, to be exercised. He used the goodwill message to call on the people of Gyaseman to join hands with the traditional leadership on the new growth path.
He said Amanokrom over the period had enjoyed relative peace and stability and strived to maintain all the pillars of progress as a people, recounting the discharge of their traditional functions and customary policies within the Gyase division and throughout the Akuapem paramountcy.
“Over this 10-year period, we have all witnessed the transformation of Amanokrom into a vibrant and bustling town, with a burgeoning youth population. There have been several new developments within the community, as well as enhancements of existing features,” the traditional leader recounted.
Development initiatives
In the specific areas of development in education, the chief said the traditional authority successfully restructured the Gyaseman Education Foundation and launched a new Teacher Support Trust Fund to enhance the quality of education standards in the area.
He also made reference to the Amanokrom Community Centre which also underwent significant upgrading to host several visitors and for other social functions.
“In the course of the year, we witnessed the completion and launch of the new Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church, which was a landmark occasion for the entire community,” he added.
Land administration
Nana Kwatia said the Gyaseman Divisional Council would be institutionalised to map out a new development strategy and introduce structures such as a land administration board to bring greater sanity and transparency into land transactions.
