AngloGold Ashanti sprays Wey Gey Hey

AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Malaria Control Limited (AGAMal), a subsidiary of the world’s third largest producer of Gold, AngloGold Ashanti Limited, has sprayed Wesley Girls High School (Wey Gey Hey) at no cost to control mosquito bites in the fight against malaria.

AGAMal has the mandate of developing, implementing and sustaining a malaria control programme that is effective, efficient, economical and measurable.

Objective

The main objective of the organisation is to propagate the agenda of reducing malaria incidence in designated parts of Ghana.

The Business Development Manager of AGAMAL, Rosemary Ampofo-Bekoe, said the spraying of Wey Gey Hey was in response to a call by the school to assist in dealing with the menace of malaria-causing mosquitoes which was affecting teaching and learning negatively.

Insecticide

She said the insecticide used was Fludora Fusion WP-SB, a formulated combination of Clothianidin and Deltamethrin product of Bayer, a German multinational, pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Company.

Team

A 12-member team from AGAMal executed the three-day task using 115 sachets of Fludora Fusion insecticide.

In all, the nine houses of the school, all classrooms, laboratories and staff bungalows were covered with the residual insecticide which is expected to be active on the wall for nine months to provide protection against malaria.

Appreciation

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Kay Oppong Nkrumah, expressed immense gratitude and satisfaction for the spraying exercise.

“We appreciate your swift response to our plea for help in carrying out a three-day Indoor Residual Spraying exercise for malaria prevention in all of our school buildings, including classrooms, dormitories and even staff apartments,” she said.
