Association of Garages receives equipment from LESDEP
The Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) has received 200 pieces of tyre changing machines and air compressors under the Local Enterprises and Skill Development (LESDEP) facility in Accra.
The equipment will be distributed to members of the association in the southern sector of the country, who would be expected to repay its cost under a revolving fund scheme initiated by LESDEP.
A Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development , Alhaji Baba Jamal, handed over the equipment to executives of the GNAG at a ceremony in Accra on Tuesday.
He was of the hope that the provision of the equipment would go a long way to enhance the economic activities of its members.
In addition, he said, it would in no small measure impact positively on road transport in the country by reducing accidents on the highways.
Alhaji Jamal said the ministry had asked LESDEP to refocus its activities by dealing with identifiable and recognised bodies in the country.
“ LESDEP should do well to deal with business oriented and identifiable groups such as GNAG, Hairdressers and Beauticians Association and tailors and dressmaking bodies instead of individuals,” he said.
This, he said , would facilitate the recovery of monies from beneficiaries of the facility to ensure its sustenance across the country.
The deputy minister implored the executive of GNAG to encourage members of the association who would benefit from the facility to repay their loans on time.
The Programmes Manager, Mr Adem Gariba, reiterated that LESDEP was determined to support bodies which wanted to improve the well-being of their members.
“ Our doors are always opened to associations and well-organised bodies who are desirous of dealing with us to improve the well-being of their members,” he said.
He explained that associations were better placed to assist LESDEP in reaching out to their members who were in dire need of support by way of training and supply of equipment.
