Court suspends Musama Disco Peace Festival
The High Court has ordered the Musama Disco Christo Church (MDCC) not to celebrate the 2013 version of its Peace Festival for the sake of peace.
The court, presided over by Mr Justice E. F. Dzakpasu, further ordered that neither parties to a suit pending before it shall engage in the celebration of the festival, pending a ruling in the application.
The court gave the orders on July 30, 2013 in the case between Rev. Mordna Motta Jehu Appiah, head of the church, and others in the matter of the Republic versus Rev. J. K. Adade and others.
The two-week festival, which brings together members of the church from all parts of the country and from abroad, is celebrated at the church’s headquarters at Mosano in the Central Region in the latter part of August and ends in September.
The church has of late been engulfed in a leadership crisis involving a faction led by Rev. J K Adade against the leader, Rev. Mordna Motta Jehu Appiah.
This has culminated in several court actions spanning some years.
Following the court order, lawyers for Rev. Jehu Appiah have informed the Central Regional Police Commander about the decision to ban the festival.
A letter to this effect entreated the police commander not to issue any permit to any faction in the church to celebrate the festival, since to do that “would amount to the commission of the offence of contempt of court.”
The letter was also copied to the divisional Commander, Agona Swedru, the crime officer, Agona Swedru, the district commander, Bobikuma, the station officer, Gomoa Eshiem and the district chief executive for Apam.
