Presbyterian Church commissions 41 new ministers

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCG, Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, congratulating the new ministers on their commissioning. The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has commissioned 41 ministers, who will be posted to some of its branches across the country to serve the church and help revive the faith of members.

The new ministers, comprising 32 males and nine females, pursued a three-year certificate course in ministry at the Ramseyer Training Centre at Abetifi-Kwahu, after which the PCG Council approved their commissioning.

The Chairperson for the West Akyem Presbytery of the church, Reverend Dr Kwame Amoah- Kumah, in a sermon, expressed concern about what he termed as the high rate of greed and corruption in the Ghanaian society in recent years.

He said greed and corruption was killing the country slowly and  called for drastic measures from all ends to save the country from running into a ditch.

Reverend Dr Amoah-Kumah urged the new ministers to adhere to the principles of Christianity to enable them to stand as true ambassadors of Christ.

He reminded them to see themselves as ministers of the Gospel and learn to identify themselves with the practice of the church.

Reverend Dr Amoah-Kumah cautioned the new ministers against the syndrome of trying to get-rich-quick-by-all-means and urged them to focus on preaching the gospel to win souls for Christ.

Rev Dr Amoah-Kumah said the post-modern culture was fundamentally hostile to the gospel, because "it is hostile to any spiritual intervention in our lives," and this demanded that the church prepared pastors to think theologically and pastorally to face such "intellectual hostility".
