Ghana to announce new Black Stars coach today – Sports Minister confirms

Ghana is expected to name a new head coach for the Black Stars within days, as authorities move to conclude a recruitment process aimed at steadying the national team ahead of key international assignments.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that an official announcement could be made as early as Monday, April 13, following weeks of consultations between the Ghana Football Association and shortlisted candidates.

Speaking in an interview with Citi TV, the Minister said the process had reached an advanced stage, with only a few final engagements remaining before a decision is taken.

“Hopefully, if by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, by Monday we should be able to announce our new coach. We’ve come very far. They still have a few more to talk to, and they have finished talking to those few,” he said.

The impending appointment comes after the exit of Otto Addo, which left the four-time African champions searching for a new technical direction at a critical period.

Sources close to the process suggest that the GFA’s Executive Council has been working with a shortlist of candidates, as it seeks an experienced manager capable of restoring confidence in the team following a run of inconsistent performances.

Among the names reportedly under consideration are high-profile coaches including Carlos Queiroz, Fernando Santos, Paulo Bento and Walid Regragui, all of whom bring significant international experience.

The Minister explained that once the Association settles on its preferred candidate, it will formally engage government to complete contractual and administrative arrangements required for the appointment.

The new coach is expected to take charge at a crucial juncture, with Ghana preparing for upcoming fixtures, including qualifiers and the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The appointment is widely seen as pivotal to the Black Stars’ immediate future, with expectations high that the next coach will not only stabilise results but also rebuild a competitive squad capable of competing strongly on the continental and global stage.
