‘Avoid excessive salt intake, alcohol abuse’

A Neurologist at the 37 Military Hospital, Dr Augustina Charway-Felli, has warned against the excessive intake of salt, alcohol abuse and lack of rest, saying they are partly responsible for the high rate of stroke and kidney diseases in the country.

She said the hospital had been recording increasing cases of stroke and kidney diseases daily and advised the public against lifestyles that contributed to the development or progress of those diseases.

Dr Charway-Felli was speaking at this year’s Cardiovascular Summit in Accra.

The summit, which brought together more than 200 health personnel from both government and private health institutions across the country, was organised by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, an international drug manufacturing company.

It aimed at improving the awareness and management of common cardiovascular risk factors in Africa.
