Ayawaso West Municipality inaugurates Youth Parliament

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, Madam Sandra Owusu-Ahinkorah has inaugurated the first District Youth Parliament of the area with a call on the youth to master the skill of public speaking.

The theme for the inauguration was: “Peaceful Election, the role of the youth”

In an address at the inauguration ceremony on Friday, March 13, Madam Owusu-Ahinkorah said the youth were the greatest resource of the country.

"Ladies and Gentlemen our greatest resource as a country is not our Gold or Oil but our Youth. The Youth of Ghana seated here today are our hope for tomorrow," she said.

"The inability of most of the youth to master public speaking, debates and more importantly skills of group dynamics in a multifaceted society woven into a democratic web, needs a special approach that is youth development-oriented and hence the conception and establishment of “the youth parliament by the National Youth Authority (NYA)".

Collaboration

She disclosed that the establishment of the Youth Parliament was a collaboration between the Assembly and the National Youth Authority (NYA).

She was hopeful that the Parliament will "instil and reinforce positive attitudes that will mould the youth to be agents of positive change with a vision to rebuild a new Ghana full of grace, prosperity and integrity".

Madam Owusu-Ahinkorah urged the youth to support the promotion of peace before, during and after the 2020 elections.
