Body of taxi driver exhumed

The body of a 31-year-old taxi driver, was yesterday exhumed at a beach near Winneba.  The taxi driver was allegedly murdered by a traditional priest some months ago at the Woarabeba beach at Nsuekyir. The retrieval of the body followed the performance of some rituals by the people of Nsuekyir. 

It came a day after the traditional priest, Nana Prince Baidoo, had led the police and officials from the Environmental Health Management Department on a fruitless exhumation exercise at the beach last Thursday.

After being remanded in police custody, Nana Baidoo, confessed that he murdered the deceased, Kow Abekah, after he consulted him to get rich quick.

The suspect, in the company of the police, officials from the Environmental Health Management Department and a pathologist from the Police Hospital as well as relatives of the deceased went to the beach and pointed to the place where, he buried the deceased.

Last Thursday, the personnel from the Environmental Health Management Department and some youth who came to the scene, all joined to dig several trenches at the beach in an effort to locate where the deceased had been buried.

While the process was underway, the suspect would point to another spot to be dug, but all these efforts proved futile forcing the officials to abandon the exercise after three hours of digging.

Solidarity

Many taxi drivers besieged the scene in solidarity with their departed colleague as they parked their cars at the scene to catch a glimpse of what was happening.

The drivers decorated their cars with red bands with others wearing red head gears and chanting “yeeni abre yeni abre koo.’’

The police at the scene had a hectic time controlling the crowd.

Briefing

The Winneba District Police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Kofi Sarkodie, told the Daily Graphic that his outfit had a report on January 28, 2014 when the deceased failed to return home after the day’s work.

He said after investigations, the deceased’s taxi was traced to the house of the fetish priest, who claimed that the deceased came to him to seek assistance to get rich.

According to the suspect, on January 25, 2014, the two went to the Sir Charles beach to consult the sea goddess and after the rituals, the deceased became reach by GH¢1billion.

The priest claimed that the deceased gave him the taxi as a reward for the assistance he gave him and later escorted him to the Winneba Junction to continue his journey.

Confession 

Mr Sarkodie added that the suspect confessed while in custody that he killed the deceased and led the police to locate where he had been buried.

He said the suspect had mentioned an accomplice, now at large, who the police were pursuing to assist in further investigations.
