A businessman and transport operator,  Mr Yaw Amponsah Marfo, single-handedly sponsored the construction of the facilities.

Mr Marfo, who is popularly known as Agya Wiase, has also constructed two police posts on the Kumasi-Accra highway to help the police deal with the menace of highway robberies.

An indigene of Asaam, Mr Marfo also presented a vehicle and two motorbikes to support the operations of the police in the area.

Emulate example

At the ceremony, Mr Kudalor commended Mr Marfo for his benevolence to the police service.

He described the gesture as one of the single largest donations by an individual to the service since its inception.

Mr Marfo constructed the facility in response to an appeal made to him by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police Mr Nathan Kofi Boakye, 14 months ago.

Mr Kudalor asked other Ghanaians to emulate Mr Marfo’s example to assist the Ghana Police to extend their services to all parts of the country.

According to him, the government alone could not meet all the demands of the police and would, therefore,  need the support of the citizenry to achieve that.

He was particularly grateful for the provision of the vehicle and the motorbikes, which he said would help the service in responding to emergency calls timeously.

Mamponghene

The Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who chaired the occasion, also praised Mr Marfo for his benevolence which had raised the status of the Mampong Traditional Council.

He asked all Mampong indigenes to return home to help build their communities, as “home is home”.

The occupant of the Silver stool conferred on Mr Marfo the title of ‘Sompahene’ in recognition of his good works.
