‘No hiding place for criminals’ as President Mahama warns against attacks on police

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong warning to criminal elements targeting personnel of the Ghana Police Service and other law enforcement agencies, declaring that such acts will be met with ruthless and decisive action.

Speaking at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 8, after presenting 100 pickup vehicles to strengthen police operations nationwide, the President expressed grave concern about recent attacks on security officers.

He cautioned that individuals who attempt to injure or kill police personnel will have no hiding place.

“There will be no hiding place for criminal elements. Especially those who seek to either injure or kill our police officers and other security officers, we shall come after you and deal with you very ruthlessly when we catch up with you,” President Mahama stated.

The President recalled a recent memorial service held in honour of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year, noting that many were killed by armed robbers and other criminal elements.

“Recently, we attended a memorial event to honour police officers who had lost their lives in the line of duty in the last one year, and several of them had been shot either by armed robbers or other criminal elements,” he said.

President Mahama stressed that the state would respond firmly to any attack on law enforcement personnel.

“I want to serve notice that the police will deal very ruthlessly with anybody who harms, injures, or kills a police officer. We will hunt them down and neutralise them,” he warned, describing the statement as a clear signal to criminals across the country.

He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening the Ghana Police Service through sustained logistical and operational support.

Referring to earlier interventions, the President recalled that in December 2025 the government handed over 40 armoured vehicles to the Service, underscoring his administration’s resolve to retool the Police.

“I made a clear commitment to the nation that this government will continue to retool the service, not with words, but with action,” he said.

President Mahama noted that enhancing police capacity remains critical to ensuring public safety, maintaining law and order, and protecting officers who risk their lives in service to the nation.
