AMECO records highest number of First Class Honours at 2026 graduation

The E.P. College of Education at Amedzofe, has recorded the highest number of graduates earning First Class Honours in its history.

Of the 282 students who graduated on Friday (Aug 21, 2026), 31 earned First Class Honours; 177 attained Second Class Upper, while 74 achieved Second Class Lower.

In 2025, 27 graduates earned First Class Honours.

“This is the result of hard work and determination on the part of the teachers and students,” the Principal of AMECO, Dr Dickson Tsey said at the 18th Congregation of the college on Friday.

The congregation was on the theme: 80 years of excellence in teacher education; The Role of AI in the Training of Teachers.

He said the staff strength of the college had appreciated over the past year, as a result of deliberate efforts by the management to address the staffing challenges at the institution.

On students’ enrollment, he said AMECO had admitted 333 fresh students this academic year, bringing the total number of students to 1,131, made up of 548 males and 583 females.

He said the steady increase in the students’ enrollment was a reflection of the confidence parents, prospective students and the wider public continued to repose in AMECO as well as the quality of teacher education the college provided.

The principal commended the 2000 Year Group of AEMCO for providing a mechanised borehole for the students, saying that was an example of what could be achieved when alumni remained connected to their alma mater.

Dr Tsey also expressed gratitude to the Evangelical Presbyterian Development and Relief Agency for a grant to the college for an additional borehole on the campus.

The Deputy Director General of Ghana the Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Augustine Ocloo, who graced the occasion, said AMECO, which was founded in 1946, continued to perform creditably in the provision of holistic teacher education.

Touching on the theme, he said it was timely and appropriate as it bridged the past with the future awaiting both the college and the teaching profession.
