Police gun down Three robbery suspects over GH¢430,000 Buipe cattle market incident

Three suspected members of a robbery gang have been killed in a shootout with police in the Savannah Region.

They are said to be involved in a GH¢430,000 robbery at the Buipe Cattle Market in the Savannah Region.

The robbery occurred on June 29, 2026, when four armed men attacked two Mobile Money vendors at the market.

The Savannah Regional Police Command, with support from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and Police Intelligence Directorate have arrested one suspect.

A police statement issued on Friday, August 21, said the gang was armed with two pump-action guns, a single-barrel gun and an AK-47 assault rifle.

They area said to have fired sporadically before escaping with the money.

After weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering, police arrested 28-year-old Yacouba Oumar at Soronuase in the Bono East Region on July 23.

According to police, Oumar admitted participating in the robbery and named Yakubu Seidu alias Baba, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya alias Addo, and Abduli Buipe alias Addo as accomplices.

He also allegedly told investigators that the gang had been contracted by a cattle trader at the Buipe market, identified as Alhaji Yacouba, also known as Masaji, Muimen or Yakubu, to carry out the robbery.

The investigation subsequently took police teams to Atebubu, Soronuase, Agogo and Dawadawa, where other members of the alleged syndicate were believed to be hiding.

Police said an exchange of gunfire occurred during operations to apprehend the suspects. Yakubu Seidu, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya and Oumaro Amadu were killed in the confrontation. Their bodies have been deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police also recovered one pump-action gun with five live BB cartridges and a single-barrel gun, which they believe were used during the Buipe robbery.

Oumar remains in police custody and is assisting with the investigation. Police say efforts are continuing to arrest Alhaji Yacouba and other persons allegedly connected to the robbery.
