Bank of Africa Ghana Limited has appointed Ellis Erasmus Katwebaze as its new Deputy Managing Director, with effect from August 19, 2026.
The appointment, announced by the bank on Thursday August 20, 2026, follows approval from the Bank of Ghana, as well as the Local and Group Boards of Bank of Africa.
Mr Katwebaze brings to the role extensive experience in banking and financial services, having previously served as General Manager, Credit and Control, at Bank of Africa Uganda and Tanzania.
In that position, he was responsible for providing direction and oversight of credit analysis, managing credit risk underwriting, protecting shareholder value and supporting sustainable credit growth.
In his new role, he will work closely with the Managing Director, Mr Abderrahmane Belbachir, and the wider Executive Management Team to drive the bank’s strategic priorities and strengthen business performance.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr Belbachir said the bank was happy to welcome Mr Katwebaze to its Executive Leadership team
“His wealth of experience, leadership capabilities and deep understanding of the banking industry will be invaluable as we execute our strategic agenda,” he said, adding that the new Deputy Managing Director’s contribution would help position the bank for sustained growth.
For his part, Mr Katwebaze said he was honoured to join Bank of Africa Ghana and looked forward to working with the Board, management and staff to build on the bank’s achievements.

Bank of Africa Ghana is a subsidiary of the Pan-African banking conglomerate, BANK OF AFRICA Group, which is present in 20 countries.
The Group’s majority shareholder is Bank Marocaine du Commerce Extérieur (BMCE Bank), reportedly Africa’s tenth largest bank, with total assets of $48 billion and an estimated net profit of $310 million.
