Ghana Premier League clubs to receive GHS 1m each, winner to take GHS 3m – 32nd GFA Congress

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a major financial boost for all 18 clubs participating in the Ghana Premier League ahead of the 2026/27 season.

GFA President Kurt Okraku revealed at the 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram that each Ghana Premier League club will receive GHS 1 million before the start of the new campaign.

The announcement represents a significant intervention aimed at strengthening the financial position of clubs and providing them with resources to operate more effectively throughout the season.

“Each GPL club will receive GHS1 million before the beginning of the season. The winner of the GPL will take home GHS 3,000,000. GHS 9,500,000 will be paid as prize money for the GPL clubs,” Kurt Okraku said.

The financial package forms part of the GFA’s new partnership with Adesa Productions Limited, which is expected to play an important role in the commercialisation and development of the country’s top-flight league.

Beyond providing immediate financial support, the initiative is intended to improve the overall professionalism of the Ghana Premier League. Clubs are expected to use the funds to strengthen their operations, improve player welfare and enhance their competitiveness.

The GFA believes stronger financial foundations for clubs will contribute to improving the quality of the league and create an environment where teams can invest more effectively in players, technical development and club administration.

The GHS 3 million prize for the league champions will also provide an additional incentive for clubs competing for the title, while the overall GHS 9.5 million prize-money package is expected to raise the stakes across the competition.

The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to begin from September 4 to 7, with clubs now preparing for what promises to be a financially strengthened campaign.

The GFA says the initiative marks another important step towards building a more professional, competitive and financially sustainable Ghana Premier League.
