The contractor working on the reconstruction of the 27.8-kilometre Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road and selected town roads has assured that the first lane from the Dodowa Junction to the Afienya Junction will be completed by December this year.
Oswal Investment Limited said once the lane was completed, traffic would be diverted from the existing dusty and untarred road onto the new lane.
The move, the contractor said, would ease the daily difficulties faced by commuters and pave the way for work to begin on the second lane of the single carriageway.
Prepare for commissioning
Speaking during a briefing on the project at the Oyibi camp site of Oswal Investment Limited last Thursday, Humphrey Awuletey-Williams said the overall project was currently 62 per cent complete.
He, therefore, urged President John Dramani Mahama to prepare to commission the first lane of the project when completed.
He gave the assurance when the Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, inspected Big Push road projects in the eastern part of the Greater Accra Region.
Mr Agbodza led a team of engineers from his ministry and the Ghana Highway Authority to assess progress on the Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road, as well as the dualisation of the 22-kilometre Adentan-Dodowa road, which is also being executed by Oswal Investment Limited.
Scope of projects
The Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road project comprises a 20.8-kilometre single-carriageway asphaltic concrete road with walkways, four kilometres of dual carriageway at the Dodowa, Afienya and Dawhenya junctions, and a 40-metre-span, four-lane concrete bridge over the River Detsedor at Afienya.
The project commenced in December 2025 and is expected to be completed in December 2027.
The Adentan-Dodowa road, which is currently 65.45 per cent complete, will comprise two-by-four lanes over eight kilometres, two-by-three lanes over six kilometres and two-by-two lanes over eight kilometres on completion.
The project will also have seven roundabouts, 23 major intersections and two footbridges. It commenced in March 2024 and is expected to be completed in March 2027.
Satisfaction
After the presentation, Mr Agbodza said he was impressed with the quality of work being executed by Oswal Investment Limited.
