Thirteen suspects identified in connection with election-related violence during Ghana’s 2020 and 2024 elections are still at large, with the police continuing efforts to arrest them, the Interior for the Minister, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka has said,
At a press briefing in Accra on Monday, the minister said 26 suspects have so far been brought before the courts in connection with the cases.
He said one of the 26 suspects has since been discharged, while the remaining 25 were facing trial.
He appealed to members of the public with information about the 13 suspects still at large to provide it to the police to assist with their arrest.
The latest figures provide an update on the prosecution of persons identified in connection with election-related violence during the two elections.
In November 2025, the Interior Ministry reported that a Special Investigation Task Force had identified 21 suspects in connection with 12 cases of election violence.
He said the various incidents resulted in 15 deaths and 40 injuries.
The report said warrants had been obtained for some of the suspects who had not been arrested.
It also stated that four suspects were on police enquiry bail, while five had been remanded in prison custody. The remaining suspects were subject to arrest warrants.
The latest figures do not state whether the 13 suspects now being pursued are among the 21 suspects identified in the 2025 report or whether they are additional suspects.
The figures show that 26 suspects have now been brought before the courts, one has been discharged and 25 are facing trial, while 13 other identified suspects remain at large.
At Monday's (Aug 24) press briefing dubbed Government Accountability Series. Mr Muntaka renewed the appeal to the public to assist the police in locating the 13 suspects.
He said information on the whereabouts of the suspects should be provided to the police to support efforts to bring them before the courts.
The government has previously pledged to act on the findings of the election-violence investigation, including holding persons found culpable accountable and providing compensation for victims and their families.
President John Dramani Mahama said in September 2025 that the report had been forwarded to the Attorney-General for review and any necessary action.
