Chief incurs wrath of traditional council

The Chief of Busunya in the Nkoranza North District, Nana Okofo Nyarko Gyabaah II, has incurred the wrath of the Nkoranza Traditional Council on ‘technical’ grounds for admitting in an interview that he was the Omanhene of Nkoranza.

Nana Gyabaah was said to have granted an interview to an Accra-based radio station on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 to assign reasons why he had objected to the re-nomination of Mr Kwadwo Agyei-Dwomor as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza North in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The interviewer, Mr Kofi Adoma, was said to have referred to Nana Gyabaah as the Omanhene of Nkoranza, but he did not correct the radio host that he was not, but rather the chief of Busunya.

For failure of doing so, Nana Gyabaah was made to appear before the Omanhene of Nkoranza to explain why he should not be sanctioned.

As custom demands, Nana Okofo Agyapong III, the Adontehene of Nkoranza, who is the head of family of the Busunya chief, presented two sheep and some drinks to pacify the Omanhene of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV, for going contrary to the norms of tradition.

Nana Gyabaah pleaded for clemency for usurping his role and taking decisions on behalf of the Omanhene without his knowledge when he appeared before the traditional council on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 to answer the charges.

The council adjourned sitting to Tuesday, August 20, 2013 to take a final decision on the appeal made by Nana Gyabaah so as to maintain peace and order in the Nkoranza North District.

In his submission, Nana Gyabaah said the interview on the radio took him by surprise and as a result, he did not actually hear the headline statement which addressed him as Omanhene, and added that he would never dare proclaim himself as such for he owed allegiance to Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom, the overlord of the Nkoranza Traditional Area.
