Chiefs and residents unveil roadmap to transform Busunu Traditional Area
Residents of the Busunu Traditional Area in the Savannah Region have unveiled a five-year development plan aimed at improving living standards and accelerating socio-economic development.
Initiated by the chiefs and people of Busunu, the plan spans the period from 2026 to 2031 and outlines strategic interventions in education, youth development, healthcare, infrastructure, job creation, and the promotion of culture and tradition.
A key component of the plan is the mobilisation of resources to complete the Busunu Community Centre, which is expected to serve as a hub for social, cultural and developmental activities in the traditional area.
The plan was officially launched at the climax of the Busunu Homecoming Celebration on December 27. Themed “Thriving Together: One Community, One Shared Future”, the event brought together chiefs, opinion leaders, indigenes resident at home and abroad, as well as development partners.
Ahead of the climax, a series of activities including a clean up exercise, fun games and a development symposium were organised as part of the celebration.
Launching the plan, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Yussif Sulemana, said it reflected the collective aspirations of the people and their renewed commitment to sustainable community development.
He stressed the need for traditional authorities to invest in clearly identifying and demarcating land boundaries to attract investors, noting that investors required land free from litigation.
Mr Sulemana said proper land use planning was critical to development and urged the community to reserve land for industrial and educational purposes to create jobs and add value to the local economy.
“We can also do well by establishing customary land secretariats in the Busunu Traditional Area. You can apply to the Customary Land Secretariat nationally, and they can assist you to open an office here,” he said.
He added that such structures, working closely with state institutions, would improve land administration and make land management more efficient and transparent.
The Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Ms Felicia Kraja, commended the traditional authorities and the youth for investing their resources to organise the Homecoming Celebration.
She said the Busunu community had consistently demonstrated unity, which she noted builds hope, promotes education and sustains the people through difficult times.
“Whether it is improving our schools, strengthening healthcare, supporting youth development or developing essential infrastructure, these are not just challenges but opportunities for us to take responsibility for our future,” she stated.
Ms Kraja also urged the youth to contribute their quota to the development of the community, describing it as a shared responsibility.
The Paramount Chief of the Busunu Traditional Area, Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II, said the five year development plan would enhance economic activity and improve living conditions in the area.
He said the plan would complement government efforts to develop the Savannah Region and appealed to sons and daughters of the area, stakeholders and development partners to support its implementation.
According to him, unity and collective effort would be key to achieving the desired transformation of the Busunu Traditional Area.
