Chinese to face court for car snatching

The 42-year-old Chinese who was arrested last Wednesday by the Ashaiman Police for allegedly snatching a taxi from its owner, Mr Yaw Koduah, is to be put before court today.

Chen Shicai will appear before the Tema Circuit Court B.

The Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Maxwell Atingane, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Mr Koduah was driving the taxi from Tema to Accra about 1 a.m. last Wednesday when Shicai stopped him at the Community ‘9’ Roundabout.

Mr Atingane said Shicai pulled out a short machete from his jacket and threatened to stab Mr Koduah, who became afraid and abandoned the vehicle.

He said Shicai drove the taxi to Ashaiman, where he lost control when he was negotiating a sharp curve and was involved in an accident.

Mr Atingane said Shicai was unhurt and started running towards Tulaku, a suburb of Ashaiman, with the machete still in his hand.

He said Shicai attempted to stop another taxi in an attempt to snatch it when a police patrol team from Ashaiman got to the scene and arrested him. - GNA
