Even though the bridge is located on a minor road, it is the principal route used to transport goods to the market centres and is frequently used by schoolchildren and workers.

A number of institutions located in both Kokoso and Abrepo have been badly affected. They include the Grace of God Church, Justking International School, Pentecost Preparatory School, St Matthew School, Future Rich School, Abrepo MA Basic School and Barrack School.

Situation

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Leader and Founder of Grace of God Church, Rev. Kingsley Aning Bonsu, said the collapse of the bridge had become a source of worry to the people living in the area.

He said besides educational institutions and religious organisations that were adversely affected, the situation was becoming unbearable for residents.

He recalled that in June 2013, River Akos overflowed its banks and submerged the bridge. He added that a 30-year-old-man and his eight-year-old daughter drowned when they attempted to cross it.

Rev. Bonsu said residents in the area feared that another mishap might happen.

He is, therefore, appealing to authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to reconstruct the bridge.
